I don’t know about you, but this year has been pretty hard on me as a woman. I mean, we have had a rough go the last few months as a sisterhood. We’re realizing we’re our own best ally. Solidarity is strongest. So when I got invited to a Galentine’s Day Party hosted by Busy Philipps I immediately confirmed my RSVP! She’s a Pinterest Queen and I, myself, love Michael’s with the passion of a thousand suns.
But-first– What is Galentine’s Day? Lol.
Galentine’s Day is coined by Leslie Knope on NBC’s Parks and Recreation. It’s a day the lady-boss deemed ‘the best day of the year’ and for obvious reasons. She goes on to explain,
“Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas.” Ladies Celebrating Ladies. That’s it. Now you can see I was more than ready to celebrate some serious pu**y power!
When I arrived at Andaz West Hollywood on Sunset the Penthouse was full of elaborate crafting stations. Personalized calligraphy in one corner next to an opulent display of flickering candles. Floor to ceiling windows provided roof top views of Los Angeles. I felt so pampered and jumped at the chance to make my own sugar scrub, while sipping themed cocktails and snapping Polaroids. Chocolate fondue stations were at every turn! It was as if someone curated my favorite day dream! Cookie decorating, wreath making and Love Letter writing left my heart full.
If the event itself didn’t leave me sparkling with creativity the take home bags would have done the trick. Premixed Galentine’s cupcakes, pictures, cards, home decor, and a personalized apron left me ready to recreate my own party.
It was the kind of Galentine’s Day my soul needed. ♥️
Here are more tips to make Galentine’s Day awesome from Busy Philipps and Michael’s
- Use rubber stamps and food coloring to create conversation heart cookies. Start with a iced sugar cookie, dab food coloring onto any type of stamp (use a cotton swab so you don’t get too much) and then place on your iced cookie. These cookies look designer made and are so fun to make!
- Body scrubs are so easy to gift because you can use things you already have in your pantry! Then you just head purchase glass jars at Michaels and customize with ribbons and lettering unique to your gal’s taste – they can double as a chic bathroom accessory until they’re ready to enjoy them
- Door décor is always important – it’s how everyone enters your home — so don’t forget Valentine’s Day! I typically add faux floral to my Valentine’s Day wreath for an eco-friendly, festive touch
- In an era of email and text, I try to always pen an old fashioned note for my friends especially those who live across the country that I don’t see as much. I love to make my girls laugh so I always include clever puns and inside jokes in my cards
